PASSOVER SEDER EXPERIENCE
“On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” – Mark 14:12
The night before his crucifixion, Jesus and his disciples shared a Passover meal. Every year of their lives, these faithful Jewish men and their Messiah observed Passover, gathering to break unleavened bread and share the cup and celebrate God’s miraculous rescue of his people from slavery in Egypt. Over the last 3,000 years, God’s people have continued to observe Passover in order to remember what He has done. Now we invite you to join the celebration at Southern Wesleyan University during our Homecoming Weekend to get a taste of this meaningful event in Jesus’ life!
Together we will read scriptures from the book of Exodus, join in worship, eat a delicious meal, and hear President Barker teach about the traditions of a Passover Seder. We trust that this glimpse of Passover – the same meal that Jesus led his disciples through at the Last Supper and the same meal that we commemorate every time we take communion – will deepen your understanding of our great God and bring you closer to Him.

Q: What timing can I expect for the evening?
A: Doors open at 5:30pm, and you are invited to arrive at any time before 6:00pm and join Dr. Mark Wilson and view SWU’s Torah scroll from the book of Isaiah. The service will begin at 6:00pm with teaching, singing, and ceremonial Passover Seder foods. Dinner will be served at 7:15pm, followed by a final teaching and worship session before we conclude at 8:45 or 9:00pm.
Q: Is there a dress code for the evening?
A: There is no dress code, though for this celebratory occasion business or church attire is suitable. Men will be provided at the door with a yarmulke to wear, in keeping with Jewish tradition for men to cover their heads during worship.
Q: Do I need to bring my Bible?
A: You do not need to bring anything with you. Everyone will be provided with a Passover Seder booklet containing scriptures, worship lyrics, and a written guide through the service.
Q: Where should I park?
A: Limited parking is available next to Founders, with additional parking next to Folger Auditorium and behind Joiner-Hilson.
Q: Will childcare be provided at this event?
A: This event is a wonderful opportunity for older children to attend with their parents. Childcare for younger children will not be provided.
Q: Are there accommodations available nearby if I am traveling from further away?
A: Conveniently located accommodations are available at SWU’s Eagles Rest Bed & Breakfast and at the Courtyard by Marriott in Clemson.
